How To Relieve Stress Using Zen Meditation

Zen Meditation (which comes from the word Zazen and literally means "sitting meditation") is a type of meditation. Zen meditation is designed to be used for lengthy periods. For this reason, it is essentially to learn the correct sitting positions so you feel comfortable.

The Sitting Positions for Zen Meditation

There are a few different sitting positions that are used in Zen meditation. Pick the most comrotable of the following:

Burmese: The Burmese position is simple. Just cross your legs with both knees on the floor, one ankle on top the other.Hankafuza: This position has the left foot on the right thigh. It is a most difficult sitting position.Kneeling: Kneel down with your hips resting on your ankles.Standing: If you cannot sit comfortably you may perform the meditation standing up with your heels pointing a little inwards. Put both hands over your belly, the right hand being held on top of the left.

When comfortable, proceed to the next step.

Performing a Zen Meditation

Place your dominant hand facing upward and the other hand on top of it. Touch your thumbs together lightly.Focus your attention on your breath.Begin counting each inhalation and exhalation. Count up to ten.Repeat the previous step.If you experience distracting thoughts, return your focus t your breath. #Continue counting your breath. After 15 minutes, begin to count the inhalation and exhalation together (so a count of 1 contains both inhalation and exhalation).Continue for a few minutes more.

Perform this meditation exercise twice a day and you will greatly reduce stress and promote relaxation.
